We began our grand experiment of cooking a whole Thanksgiving fiest 1998, the year we graduated from UofD. We had friends who's families actually didn't cooking Turkey so we said hey we'll give it a try. The next few years we met people from out of state who didn't have family in town and didn't make any Thanksgiving meal. So our invite list expanded.
The last two years we've had around 50 dinner guests. We do a turkey, squash, stuffing, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, stuffing, array of desserts and much more. Most things from scratch. It's a ton of work but so much fun. People keep coming back so they must like it too!
Allot of our friends are moving out of state after this year so we really enjoyed every second of the party. We had the same thing happen after med school, everyone going off in different directions for residency. Somehow we did manage to meet allot more fab people and grow our little party again. Good think we've got a good group of Michiganders to hang with!
Cadence was very well behaved and so were all the other babies. Last year was the everyone is pregnant so the boys had fun drinking year. This year there's still good wine and beer but lotsa babies and less crazy antics.
My parents have driven out with my sister the past couple of years. They drop her off and visit, then Rob meets her after work. This year we had a huge snow storm so Rob had to turn back half way here. Everyone got home safe but the drive was bad! People seemed to be bulking up in case there car broke down, we went through the most food ever this year, whole 25 pound Turkey demolished!
